WATCH OUT FOR PROPAGANDA

2. Jul, 2013

Today (1 July 2013) marks the next step in the roll-out of Universal Credit and the reforms to the welfare system that will support those who work hard and want to get on.

Jobseekers in Wigan will be able to make a claim to Universal Credit from today, with people in Oldham and Warrington being able to make claims on 29 July. The majority of claims to Universal Credit will be made online.

Universal Credit launched 10 weeks ago in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire areas when Ashton-Under-Lyne began accepting Universal Credit claims and 3 other Jobcentres started trialling the Universal Credit Claimant Commitment and signing people up to Universal Jobmatch

A toolkit to inform partner organisations about Universal Credit and to help them explain the changes to claimants.

See these quick guides

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is introducing greater fairness to the welfare system by making work pay. It replaces a range of existing benefits with a single monthly payment and smoothes the transition into work by combining in work and out of work benefits.

Early rollout of Universal Credit, known as Pathfinder, started in some areas of Greater Manchester and Cheshire in April 2013. Universal Credit will be progressively rolled out nationally from October 2013.

The toolkit

This toolkit is for organisations, particularly those in the pathfinder locations, to inform them about Universal Credit and to help them explain to claimants the changes that Universal Credit brings.

We will update this page and the information in the toolkit on an ongoing basis.
